Do you know how long it took Leonardo da Vinci to paint his world famous Mona Lisa? Some historians believe da Vinci worked on it for 16 years. No wonder it’s a masterpiece!

Is there any goal that you have been working on, or plan to work on for at least 16 years? If there is, then you could also have a masterpiece of your own.

Yes, you can think of your goal as a masterpiece.

Maybe your masterpiece is to write a bestselling novel, or build a successful business, invent something that changes the world, raise a happy child, or simply live a good fulfilling life.

No matter what it is, treating your goal as a masterpiece will bring you some new insights.

First of all, seeing your goal as a masterpiece, you will naturally become more patient with your goal. Anything great or worthwhile and beautiful takes a long time to build. So does your goal. If it’s a masterpiece, how long it takes may not matter that much anymore. All that matters is you keep working at it.

Now you know it’s going to take a long while, you won’t be easily discouraged by temporary setbacks and transient obstacles. You will be more resilient because you will feel any failures or rejections you experience are just small bumps on the road.

When you think about your goal as a masterpiece you are building, you will naturally feel excited and motivated to work on it. Because you know you are working on something that is going to be exciting, beautiful and significant.

Of course we can’t all be da Vinci or Michelangelo, but we can all create our own goal and make it a masterpiece. So today, what are you going to do with your masterpiece?
